Antrim Retro Jersey (Adults)
Antrim Retro Jersey (Adults)
Inspired by the 30 year anniversary of the 1989 All-Ireland hurling final between Tipperary, managed by Bab's Keating and Antrim, managed by Jim Nelson. The final was played in Croke Park on September 3rd.
Tipperary were victorious on the day with a scoreline of 4-24 to 2-9. Tipperary captain was Bobby Ryan whilst Ciaran Barr captained the Saffron County.
The game is notable for a number of reasons. This was Antrim's second ever appearance in an All-Ireland final, some forty-six years after they lost to Cork at the same stage of the championship. Nicky English set a scoring record for a single player in the modern era as he notched up 2-12 to win his first All-Ireland Senior medal. He finished the year as overall top scorer with 4-38 and also won Player of the Year. The victory for Tipperary, eighteen years after their last in 1971, also preserved the county's unique record of winning an All-Ireland title in every decade of the GAA's existence.
The 1989 Tipperary Retro Jersey is now available to purchase.
